Joint CNR-UNIMI Lab of Cathodoluminescence Microscopy

The joint CNR-UNIMI Lab is located at the Dept. of Earth Sciences of University of Milano, and consists of a Cathodoluminescence probe (CITL CL MK5) coupled with a petrographic microscope.

CL Microscopy is utilized to investigate sediment samples and/or biogenic remains for diagenetic studies with the purpose to reconstruct the original depositional environment and its evolution. The lab activity is focused on sedimentological, compositional and diagenetic studies of sedimentary records from a wide variety of geological settings, using a multi-proxy approach (SEM/EDS, C/O stable isotopes, and REE geochemistry).
