GeosLab3

The GeoS Lab is equipped with 3 new workstations, A0 plotter and scanner.
Modelling activities are carried out by means of state of the art software such as Petrel® (Schlumberger Italiana Spa), Move® (Midland Valley Exploration Ltd) and Kingdom® (IHS Inc). The GeoS Lab (CNR-IGAG) is provided with modern technologies for the integrated interpretation of geological and geophysical subsurface data-sets (e.g., seismic reflection and well data).

 

Modelling is performed at different scales:

- definition of the crustal geological setting and of the tectonic processes which controlled the evolution of the study areas;

- reconstruction of the characteristics and of the spatio-temporal evolution of macro-structures and of associated meso-structures, based on cross-section balancing and 3D geological modelling;

- analysis and characterisation of natural fracture systems in carbonate reservoirs, using outcropping analogues and well data.  Geo-structural field survey, statistical fractures management and modelling of a discrete fracture networks.

These methodologies are applied not only to pure but also to applied research fields such us  seismic risk evaluation (seismo-tectonic models), management of environmental (CO2 geological sequestration) and energetic issues (assessment of geothermal resources and underground gas storage).
